Livestock guardian dogs (LGDs) are dedicated and fearless protectors of their flocks. They have been performing as guardians for over three thousand years with the first LGDs being recorded around 3000 B.C. in the Balkan Peninsula. The LGDs of today are thought to be descendants of those first flock guardians. In present day guardian dogs are used worldwide on ranches, farms and hobby farms to prevent livestock predation. Their success is in large part due to their ability to deter attacks on their flock. But when necessary, these fearless dogs are capable of meeting the challenge of any predator, no matter how big or dangerous.
